A Year in Review

No, the year isn’t over yet. But, here is a summary of 2020 (so far)! Make sure to click through the gallery for the full effect.

Jaynie asked Lydia if she wanted to make another one or move past it and Lydia answered, “let’s just move past it.”

The Great Eight

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” - The Apostle Paul

“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” - Winnie the Pooh

Saying goodbye to Spencer, Ali, Ella, Juliette, Karis, and Silas was hard.

Saying goodbye to Peter was hardest.

We are back in Illinois. This is why.

One of our favorite memories from our time in the Vancouver area was memorizing and discussing a large chunk of Romans 8 with the Lafleur’s. It is often referred to as The Great Eight as many consider it to be the greatest chapter ever written in the history of the world. And our little chapter in history includes a great eight months living in British Columbia. And so The Great Eight is the title of this post as it has a dual meaning to us.

We are thankful for this year. God is good and He is faithful.

Lydia is insanely adaptive to whatever situation she ends up in, wherever it may be. And we are thankful for the gift that she continues to be. Jaynie did a wonderful job homeschooling Lydia but she is now back at Clapham. The cutoff in BC for the school year is based on the calendar year, but in Illinois it is based on your age on September 1st. So Lydia started first grade in BC and is now in Kindergarten in Illinois (called Explorers 2 at Clapham). This is great because I am now able to tell everybody that homeschooling went really well and Jaynie did a great job, except for the fact that Lydia had to repeat Kindergarten.

We are also thankful for the time we spent at FaithVan PCA and for our time in small group studying 2 Corinthians. One of the Pastor’s at FaithVan called us after we left and told us that he was sorry we weren’t able to have a meal together (because of COVID - he was high risk). He then said that we will have plenty of meals together in glory. Which we will. I hope I’ll always remember this right perspective on things. As Augustine said, the heart of man was created for God and it cannot find rest until it rests in his Father’s heart. We are sojourners here. This world is not our home. But until That Day, I believe it is accurate to say that we will be restless, wherever we are.
