No Soup For You!

We had a bit of a scare this week.

Thursday Lydia tried some new food with dinner. A piece of bread dipped in some soup.

Instant allergic reaction. Swollen lips. Hives. Off to ER.

At the hospital Lydia was happy as always and popular as ever. She waved to everybody that came in the room and liked playing with the heart-rate monitor. She also quickly learned that her wristband was scanned every time a nurse came in to give her medicine. They were quite surprised when she started holding her wrist up for the scan.

After some Benadryl, Steroids, and Motrin, she passed out in Mom's arms and we came home. She is still recovering but doing well.

Thankful

Last weekend Lydia and I began a road trip to visit family throughout Michigan. Our first stop was in Rockford to Andrew and Becky's new home. We arrived during the first snowfall of the season. Lydia enjoyed climbing the stairs, watching the falling snow, reading books, sledding, and eating meals with her cousins Grace and Ava. Sharing her nightly bath however was not so enjoyable!

Our next stop was in Howell where we met Aunt Jodie for lunch and some shopping.

Our last stop was in West Bloomfield where we stayed with Grandma and met up with Matt. Lydia and Felix the Cat became best of friends during our visit. We celebrated Thanksgiving at Miles and Peggy's house. It was wonderful to have Lydia meet some more family!

First Haircut

Before we get to the haircut photos, here are some images of Lydia up to her usual shenanigans.

The Trim

Lydia was born with a lot of hair. Some of it fell out. Some did not. As anybody who has seen the blog or met Monks before knows, her hair has been quite crazy for her entire life. If there is anybody who somehow missed this, here are some before photos of Lydia and her hair in its prime!

One

Our little girl turned one this week. A lot of people told us it would go by fast. It has.

Here is a link to her introduction post from one year ago. What a joy indeed.

Lydia has always loved the Happy Birthday song. This time we sang it for her on her birthday.

Apparently she also loves Bundt Cake. She wasn't sure about it at first, but once she tasted the icing on the bottom of the candle, there was no stopping her...except to share with Mom.

Thank you family and friends for all of the calls, cards, and gifts Lydia received.

We also had a pre-birthday celebration with Grandma while she was helping us move. Here are some photos of Lydia at her favorite train themed restaurant, 2 Toots. The first photo is Lydia pointing to the actual train tracks outside. She had her first cupcake at 2 Toots, which was quite interesting. She started out by eating it one sprinkle at a time.

Happy Birthday Monks! We love you.
